A “STRUCTURALLY unsound” building in a car park beside a supermarket could be demolished.
Tesco is keen for the outbuilding to the east of its Haddington store to be torn down.
An application has now been lodged with East Lothian Council’s planning department.
Four parking spaces could be created in place of the building.
Documents included with the application highlight the condition of the structure and the need for it to be removed.

A design and supporting statement reads: “It has deteriorated significantly and is structurally unsound.
“The building is no longer in use and does not contribute positively to the character or appearance of the conservation area.
“While it holds no specific historical designation, its presence within the conservation area warrants consideration of the current proposal.”
The demolition, to be carried out by a licensed contractor, is considered “a necessary measure to mitigate safety risks and address the deteriorating condition of the outbuilding”.
A decision on the future of the building, off Newton Port, is expected to be made by council planners by early September.
