VISITORS to two county beaches are being urged to keep out of the water.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) are advising against bathing or paddling at Yellowcraig, near Dirleton, and Broadsands, just east of Yellowcraig, as a precaution.
East Lothian Council’s countryside rangers are placing signs in the area highlighting the issue.
A spokesperson for the local authority said: “We are aware of SEPA’s current advice against bathing and paddling at Yellowcraig and Broadsands and that the matter is currently under investigation.
“We would request that the public follow the advice and signage that is in place.
“The council will continue to liaise closely with SEPA and other agencies as appropriate, to monitor the situation.”
According to SEPA, there has been “a high result on a routine sample”.
The incident is expected to last for three days and authorities are working together to investigate the solution.
