AN ANNUAL fundraising walk in memory of a Tranent legend is set to take a poignant route this year as it takes in a street named after him.

Scott Glynn MBE started Walk With Scott in 2013 to raise money for local causes and in 2019 was named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for services to health and charity after raising more than £300,000.

Scott passed away in 2020 following a battle with cancer, but his charity has continued its great work in his memory.

The Walk With Scott Foundation’s (WWSF) main fundraiser is an annual walk across East Lothian, with the 12th iteration set to take place on Saturday, August 31.

The 2024 event has a new route this year as it goes through newly named ‘Scott Glynn Walk’, in the south of Tranent.

The walk starts and finishes at Cockenzie Royal British Legion, covering a distance of about 13 miles.

It will be raising funds for The Haven, a charity currently based in Tranent which supports families living in the area struggling with mental health-related issues. The aim is to expand these services to other areas of East Lothian.

Also on WWSF’s fundraising calendar is a charity day taking place in Cockenzie House & Gardens on August 17.

Everyone is welcome to the free event, which will feature various local bands playing from 2pm to 8pm.

The Walk with Scott Foundation’s summer newsletter reads: “Thanks to your fundraising efforts, we continue to help and support those who need us around East Lothian; we have made several awards over the last few months and expect to be making several more in the months to come.”

The charity recently awarded £5,000 to Beyond Boundaries East Lothian to help fund the purchase of two minibuses, which will be used to allow it to continue to provide adventurous outdoor activities to adults and children with disabilities or mental health challenges.

WWSF awarded DadsWork/Men’s Shed £4,000 to assist in the relocation of the East Lothian shed from its current home in Musselburgh to larger premises in Prestonpans.

This will increase the number of users and the productivity of the shed, as well as providing a social space for safe conversations and learning.

The charity also supports the Pennypit Trust and its summer lunch clubs which help county families in need.

Events take place throughout the year to continue WWSF’s work in raising money for a range of valuable causes.

The charity’s newsletter concludes: “Not only are these fun and friendly events, they are also the source of much of our funding, so need your support.”
