A VILLAGE’S annual celebration gets under way on Saturday, at the start of nine days of activities.
Gullane Games promises events ranging from golf and cricket competitions to video gaming and sand modelling.
Organisers have promised that the annual event will be “a highlight of the summer” and said: “All events are free unless stated otherwise and any funds raised go towards the running of the games and are donated to local sports clubs and organisations.
“Gullane Games are committed to supporting grassroots sports and community initiatives in Gullane.”
On Saturday, from 10am to noon, there is an under-12 golf competition at the children’s golf course.
In the afternoon, from 2pm to 3.30pm, there is under-16 football at Memorial Park.
A video gaming night for anyone over the age of 10 at the Recreation Hall runs from 7pm to 10pm. Entry is £2 per person. To book a space, email gullanegamesvideo@gmail.com
On Sunday, there is a fun cricket session for all ages at the astroturf beside Gullane Primary School from 10am to noon.
Then, from 2pm to 4pm, there is the village treasure hunt. Fun gets under way at The Mallard Hotel and entry is £5 per team, with a maximum of five people per team.
Primary-age children and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
On Monday, there are under-16 golf lessons with Myles Cunningham.
The session takes place from 2pm to 3pm at courses number 2 and 3, and spaces can be booked by emailing gullanegames@gmail.com
At 6.30pm, there is a children’s and adults’ fun bowling evening at Gullane Bowling Club.
On Tuesday, there are long drive and pitching and putting competitions at the same golf courses. Entry is £1 per competition and the action gets under way at 6.30pm.
On Wednesday afternoon, from 1pm to 3pm, there is a sand modelling competition at Gullane Beach.
Then, from 4pm to 6pm, there is a table tennis competition for P3 and above in the village hall.
Finally, there is an under-14 disco at Gullane Games marquee on the children’s golf course. The fun gets under way at 7pm.
Entry is £1 per person and there will be a tuck shop.
Next Thursday (August 1), there is children’s arts and crafts at the marquee from 10am. Entry is £1 per child.
A junior tennis competition for secondary school pupils is played from 3.45pm and there is a competition for youngsters in P5 to P7 at 5.15pm. Head along beforehand to register.
Then, there is a family ceilidh at Gullane Village Hall from 7pm. Entry is by donation and it is a bring-your-own-bottle event. Book a space by emailing gullanega mesceilidh@gmail.com
Next Friday (August 2), there is tartan touch rugby at Memorial Park from 10am and a quiz night for over-18s at Gullane Village Hall from 7.30pm.
Entry is £25 per team, with up to four people in each team. To book, email gullanegamesquiz@gmail.com
Next Saturday (August 3) brings the games day fancy dress parade, with a theme of France/Olympics, from 1.30pm.
The first race is at 2.30pm at the children’s golf course and there will be plenty of activities on offer, including a barbecue, beat the goalie and glitter tattoos.
Next Sunday (August 4) features a community evening jam from 5.30pm at the Gullane Games marquee.
