A KEY road in and out of Tranent will remain closed for two weeks longer than originally expected.
Church Street has been closed since July 1, from its junction with Elder Court to its junction with Winton Place, forcing motorists trying to drive into the centre of the town from the Bankton Junction of the A1 to find an alternative route.
The drainage works were due to be finished on Sunday but the contractor has requested the extension until August 9 due to unforeseen ground conditions.
A diversion is currently in place along Church Street, the A198 past Wallyford towards Prestonpans through the B1361, Gardiner Terrace, Mid Road and onto Edinburgh Road and Bridge Street, Tranent.
The road closure, signage and diversion route will remain in place until August 9.
No further extensions will be granted, and the road will reopen by August 10.
An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “We are grateful to residents and bus companies for their understanding and co-operation while these essential works are completed.
“All users should continue to follow the official diversion route ahead of the road reopening by August 10.”
