AN “EVER ACTIVE and ever-supportive” member has taken the helm at Dunbar Rotary.
Steve Elliott was selected as the new president of the group at the last meeting in June.
Outgoing president Ian Dickson was full of praise for his successor, who thanked Ian for “stepping up at a difficult time for Dunbar Rotary and bringing in a time of reflection and innovation”.
Graeme Darkes will remain as secretary while Brian Dale is the group’s treasurer.
Visitors at the meeting included Colin Renton, whose late father Rob Renton had been a Rotarian in both Galashiels and Dunbar.
In his memory, the Renton family presented a trophy which Dunbar Rotary would present at the end of each golfing season to the most improved young golfer at Dunbar Golf Club.
Rotarian Andrew Brown, thanking Colin on behalf of Dunbar Rotary, recalled a long friendship with Colin’s father.
Outgoing president Ian awarded the Rotarian of the Year award to member Alison Elliott, who has contributed with energy and flair to many of the year’s projects, including the Angel Trees, the charter dinner, the station project and the April ceilidh.

Last month, the club hosted visitors from several Scottish railway stations, keen to see Rotary’s station garden project.
The initiative has already transformed the banking and provided new planters at platform one.
Benches outside have also been repainted while the improvements have drawn admiring looks and many appreciative comments from passengers.
Planning will now start for many other projects over the coming 12 months.
