POTENTIAL for smoke from barbecues, disturbances from dogs and harm to livestock have been listed as reasons to turn down plans for holiday cabins near North Berwick.

The application, which has been approved by East Lothian Council’s planning department, received 10 objections.

Objectors outlined 21 concerns about the application.

Concerns ranged from how the four cabins at Rhodes Holdings, to the east of the town, would “appear alien to a largely natural environment” to “the proposed site would result in a low-quality holiday experience”.

Further issues claimed “the close proximity of these holiday lets/sheds and playground would likely cause a noise nuisance, barbecue smoke, etc, to the nearby houses”.

Also that a “lack of onsite management is likely to result in guests and their dogs and visitors causing disturbance, police anti-social and noisy behaviour and harm to livestock in neighbouring fields”.

However, planning officials approved Ian McNeill’s application.

Half of the cabins would contain one bedroom, while the other two would be two-bedroom properties.

Each cabin would also have a kitchen, living, dining and sleeping area, along with a small shower room.

A total of six parking spaces would be created, while there would also be a play area on the site.

Planners described the cabins as “relatively small in size and scale” and said they would “not have a significant impact” on the North Berwick Law Special Landscape Area.
