NORTH Berwick Harbour Trust has thanked residents of the town for their support while the harbour wall is repaired.

A large hole was blasted in the wall during stormy weather last October, and repair work has been taking place since May.

Sea defences are being rebuilt to secure the harbour, with a concrete base wall structure dressed with stone on the outer side.

And, as the picture above shows, specialist cranes have been called upon to solve the tricky problem of getting key materials to the difficult-to-reach scene. Here, concrete is being pumped across the harbour and poured into the wall.

Jane McMinn, chair of North Berwick Harbour Trust, said: “This was the penultimate concrete pour, which will be left to set and then the facing stones will be built around, as we progress towards a completion date estimate of mid-August.

“Many thanks to you all for the amount of community support shown – it has been amazing and enabled us to finish off the wall with the help from North Berwick Trust. [And] thanks to East Lothian Council and contractors for their friendly and professional efforts.”

Previously, a grant of £160,000 from North Berwick Trust was awarded to the harbour trust to help restore the damaged harbour wall and walkway.

The final ‘concrete pour’ was due to take place yesterday (Wednesday).
