OWNERS of a short-term let which requires guests to be over 25 years old has asked East Lothian Council to allow it to continue operating.

The three-bedroom property on Dunbar’s Wilson Place has been used as a short-term let since August 2022.

Already, steps have been taken to try to ensure that guests are respectful of neighbours.

A document included with the application for certificate of lawfulness notes that the property was previously rented long-term before being switched to short-term let.

It reads: “The guest bookings for the property are managed by our agent, Hotel Around Town.

“They implement screening measures, requiring guests to be over 25 years old and verified on Airbnb.

“They also request government identification, check guest history and reviews, and require a security deposit.

“The property does not accept one-night stays or third-party bookings. Hotel Around Town maintains open communication with neighbours and ensures that only appropriate, respectful guests stay.

“They have a dedicated in-house guest communication team.

“There are rules in place to prevent parties or events, over-occupancy, smoking, and to ensure guests are respectful of neighbours. Hotel Around Town employs channel management software and is ready to integrate noise awareness devices, smart locks, and video entry systems.”

A decision on the application from Evan Bryceland is expected by the end of next month.
