CHANGES could be carried out at a building in the centre of Dunbar as part of preparations to improve internet speeds across the country.

BT plans to install the ‘fibre’ broadband rollout network programme, as part of the Government’s initiative for high-speed broadband, to every home by 2025.

As part of the work, BT needs to upgrade broadband and landline technology for the local area. That will include improving ventilation at the BT Telephone Exchange on Countess Crescent.

Alterations include creating an opening on the ground floor, as well as installing aluminium louvres. Proposals have been lodged with East Lothian Council’s planning department.

A design and access statement notes that the site “will not be developed or enlarged in any way” and that the use of the floor space “will not change”.

The council is due to decide on BT Group PLC’s application by August 19.

Market stall CONSIDERATION could be given to Dunbar Community Council hosting a stall at a monthly market in the town.

The next market takes place next Sunday (July 21) in Lauderdale Park. Stallholders are focused on food and crafts but community councillors agreed to explore the possibility of either the group or Dunbar and East Linton Area Partnership (DELAP) taking on a stall.

The market runs from 10am to 3pm. Group meeting ISSUES in Dunbar will be discussed at a meeting next week.

Dunbar Community Council meets on Monday in Dunbar Town House.

The meeting starts at 7pm.
