EAST Lothian Foodbank, based in Tranent, has asked for help from the community to supply breakfast items as it struggles to keep up with demand.
The charity has put out a request across social media specifically asking for boxes of cereal to be donated to one of its drop-off points across the county.
Lisa McCart, volunteer co-ordinator and warehouse lead for East Lothian Foodbank, said: “We’ve noticed that our donations are dropping at the minute.
“From the parcels that we’re sending out, at least 30 per cent if not more of those parcels are for families with children.
“Cereal, milk, all those sort of things are really essential for breakfast to have a good start to the day.
“We try and focus on one item a week when we can. Breakfast cereals are just one of the things we’re quite short on at the moment.
“All donations go to help everyone that we support in the local community.”
The foodbank is asking shoppers to pick up an extra box of cereal in the supermarket and drop it into a donation box.
These are in Tesco and Co-op stores across East Lothian, as well as in libraries, while items can also be taken to the foodbank directly at 3 Civic Square.
