A NEW café in the centre of Haddington is hoping East Lothian Council give the green light to their signs.

Rocksalt opened on the town’s High Street earlier this summer and specialises in Mediterranean flavours.

However, after the building, which was previously home to Caffe Luca, was given a fresh coat of paint the local authority’s planning department stepped in.

The business was told that the paint job and new signs required planning permission given the building’s listed status and its location within a conservation area.

Last month, a spokesperson for the local authority told the Courier: “We have investigated the matter and established that the repainting of the shopfront is a breach of planning control.

“Earlier this week, applications were submitted seeking retrospective planning permission and listed building consent for the repainting.

“Those applications have been invalidated, and we have requested further information to enable them to be registered as valid applications.”

Now, an application for advertising consent – highlighting the new signs – has been lodged with the local authority.

Further applications are expected for listed building consent and planning permission.
