A FEMALE president has been selected at Haddington and District Probus Club for the first time.

Rona Bowick was warmly welcomed into the role by the club’s outgoing president John Weierter.

A spokesperson for the group said: “Up until September 2021, ladies had attended meetings as guests but, after an overwhelmingly positive vote among the members in favour of admitting ladies as full members, they first joined in October 2021.

“The change has been a very successful one and Rona would like to welcome any retiree in the area to come along and try out the club at one of its fortnightly Monday meetings.

“These run from September to May in the Maitlandfield House Hotel, Haddington, and begin at 10am.”
