ORANGE netting on Elcho Green has been installed as more work is set to be carried out on North Berwick’s West Beach to combat the effects of coastal erosion.
Miles of county coast suffered badly from erosion following Storm Babet last October.
In May, more than 100 metres of wooden defences were put in place after sections of Elcho Green were lost to the tides.
Now, East Lothian Council is taking further measures to protect the coastline.
During the damage to the beach, sleepers were recovered and were re-attached.
Engineers have now determined that further work will be carried out and additional batons will be used to strengthen the structure.
Until the work is completed, the orange netting and advisory signs will remain in place.
A council spokesperson said: “This relates to repair work which has been previously reported.
“West Beach, along with other coastal areas in East Lothian, suffered significant damage over the winter period.
“Original sleepers were dislodged by the power of the sea which included very high tides and strong easterly winds. Where accessible, the original sleepers were recovered from the beach.
“After inspections and discussions with engineers, it was agreed that the original sleepers could be re-attached and additional batons would be used to strengthen the structure.
“The netting and advisory signs are in place purely as a safety measure until such times as the work is complete.”
