THE idea of community speed watches in North Berwick has been revisited after concerns were raised about fast drivers on roads in the town.

Previously, North Berwick Community Council objected to the idea due to high insurance costs, which would allow members to carry out the speed watches.

This was after numerous members of the public raised concerns about speeding drivers on a number of roads in North Berwick.

On Tuesday, community councillors met, with residents highlighting multiple roads where speeding seems to be a problem.

Roads included Clifford Road, Haddington Road, St Andrew Street and Law Road have been highlighted with many other streets mentioned.

Kenny Miller, chairman of the community council, said: "In the past, we have talked about community speed watches and it seems there are a number of community councils in East Lothian who have been talking about speed watches.

"However, there is a big issue with this as you are not insured to stand at the side of the road with a speed camera and if we do that our premium for our insurance is something like triple the amount it is at the moment.

"We have decided in the past that we weren't going to do it as there is no funding from the council or the police to help us do this."
