A RECENT gardens’ open day in Longniddry raised more than £3,000 for charity.
Visitors were treated to a variety of horticultural delights as residents allowed them to view their private gardens under Scotland’s Gardens Scheme (SGS).
Local organiser Sue Lessels said: “We had a brilliant day and could not have asked for better weather. There was beautiful blue sky.
“We had about 250 visitors and made £3,050 for charity. Forty per cent goes to SGS’s own selected charities and 60 per cent, that is 30 per cent each, will be donated to Parkinson’s UK and BloodBikes Scotland – a success that justifies the effort to bring the gardens to peak condition.”
She added: “I’d like to thank all the visitors for coming and taking such an interest in the gardens, talking to the owners, enjoying the teas and buying plants and jam. They all contributed to an excellent afternoon.
“I would also like to thank the gardeners and their helpers for all their hard work.”
