A TRANENT teenager who assaulted a woman and left the scene of an accident while he was driving an unregistered motorcycle has been jailed for nine months.

Ryan Owens punched the woman to the head and pushed her on the body, causing her to fall to the ground and resulting in her being injured, near to his Northfield home last year.

Owens had been involved in an accident while riding the motorbike but then left the scene of the crash on June 25.

He also behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and uttering threats of violence during the incident.

The 19-year-old was later traced and arrested by police and, during a search, was found to be in possession of a knife.

Owens pleaded guilty to the offences when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court earlier this year and he was back for sentencing last week.

Sheriff Julius Komorowski imposed a total custodial sentence on the teenager of nine months and placed nine penalty points on his driving licence.

Owens had also admitted a separate offence of spitting on a bus driver on London Road in Edinburgh on March 22, 2022. He was admonished on that charge.
