AN EAST Lothian businessman says he has been motivated to finish rebuilding North Berwick's harbour wall even quicker... to cover up England flags which have been left flying on his scaffolding.
Iain Trotter, of East Coast Masonry, who is currently working on the rebuild of the harbour wall after it was damaged by storms last year, has been left as the butt of a joke by English contractors.
After Scotland's footballers crashed out of Euro 2024 at the group stage, a St George's Cross and flag buntings were put up on the scaffolding at the harbour wall.
The English contractors for Southbay Civil Engineering, from North Shields, Tyne and Wear, are convinced that Gareth Southgate's England will be taking the trophy home by the end of the tournament, despite their shaky performances so far.
On the England flags appearing at the site, Mr Trotter, who currently on paternity leave, told the Courier: "It’s giving me motivation to build it quicker to cover them up!
"The guys that work for Southbay are English so they put them up after having some banter with the guys from site and the harbour, winding us up England are going to win the Euros.
"There is also a Scotland flag and Scotland flag has been put up on the boat that takes the public out."
And Iain said he had hit back by putting up a few Lion Rampant flags and a number of St Andrew's Crosses.
