MORE than a dozen Knox Academy pupils swapped their school shoes for running shoes to boost a charity.

Thirteen pupils lined up at the start line for the 10k race at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival, which took place last month.

The group, which was joined by Robert Flood, curriculum leader – social subjects, and Lana Borwick, from the school’s physical education department, was raising money for LoveOliver.

The Edinburgh-based charity was set up in memory of Oliver Gill, who died of a malignant rhabdoid tumour. Emilis Vaicaitis, Euan Farquhar and Sam Palmer, pupils at the school, previously secured £3,000 of funding for the charity through the school’s youth philanthropy initiative (YPI).

They were joined in Edinburgh by Ryan Pirie, Anya Boardman, Freya Maycock, Alice Kirkland, Lucy Darling, Matthew Davison, Helen Stoddart, Ava Middlemiss, Fergus Allan and Rory Burns.

A spokesperson for the school highlighted the efforts of all those involved in the event and said: “Congratulations to all our pupils and staff who competed in this to raise money for Love Oliver.

“At present the total raised is a whopping £1,769 – exceeding the target set by £769.

“A huge thank you to all who donated.”
