POSTAL voters who have yet to receive their General Election ballots can vote in person at an emergency drop-in centre in East Lothian this weekend.

East Lothian Council has taken the unusual step of setting up a facility where residents who have yet to receive their Lothian East postal vote can have one reissued, or even cast their vote, ahead of the July 4 poll.

Replacement ballot papers - only for constituents who had a postal vote approved but have not yet received it - are available from the elections office at Meadowmill Sports Centre, by Prestonpans, today (Saturday), 2-4pm, and tomorrow (Sunday), 11am-4pm.

A council statement said: "While most people in the ‘Lothian East’ constituency should have received their postal vote by now, we know that some residents may not have received this.

"Anyone in the constituency who has not yet received their postal vote and is going away on holiday between now and Monday can collect a replacement paper this weekend."

Those eligible must bring identification and/or a postal poll card.

There have been national issues with the printing and delivery of some postal votes.

East Lothian Council says its elections team has been working hard to provide support for people who have not yet received their postal vote and this will continue over the weekend and into next week if necessary.

City of Edinburgh Council and Fife Council have also set up similar emergency postal voting centres.
