A GROUP of volunteers sprang into action to tidy up the beach at Musselburgh recently.
The team, from Edge Group Scotland Ltd, a Musselburgh-based transitions service for young autistic and ASN adults aged 18 to 35, braved the rain to focus their litter-picking efforts on the area where the Brunstane Burn meets the sea at the beach, filling four full bags in a short space of time.
Seven young adults – who are part of the Transitions Programme from Edge Group Scotland Ltd – and three staff members volunteered their litter-picking services.
A spokesperson for the group said that they found all sorts of rubbish, including a “huge amount” of plastic.
They added: “The team were very glad to be able to have cleared what they did. They were forced to stop litter picking because they ran out of bin bags.
“They’ll be back out again in the coming weeks to use some of their volunteering time to give back to the amazing community of Musselburgh and keep the streets and public areas as clean and tidy as possible.”
The spokesperson said that, having litter-picked around Musselburgh on numerous occasions before, in conjunction with the Musselburgh StreetClean group on Facebook, they knew that even picking up one piece of litter could make a difference.
