TRAFFIC and parking restrictions have been revealed ahead of next month’s Genesis Scottish Open.

Thousands of spectators are expected to head to The Renaissance Club to watch some of golf’s top stars do battle.

Last year’s event, which was won by Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, attracted a crowd of more than 72,500 spectators over the four days.

Ahead of the tournament teeing off on July 11, East Lothian Council has worked alongside event organiser the DP World Tour and Police Scotland to create a transport management plan to help minimise the impact on residents and businesses.

The plan includes temporary changes to the parking, waiting, loading and unloading restrictions in Aberlady, Longniddry and Dirleton, with restrictions in place from 6am on July 10 until 11pm on July 14.

In terms of traffic flow, spectators will be directed from the A1 at Haddington before heading eastbound at the Ballencrieff Roundabout, along the B1377 via Drem.

This means the majority of traffic will be ushered away from the A198 coast road, which will remain open at all times, but delays and congestion may be experienced during the event, particularly in the expected peak travel periods.

The public car park is free and is located immediately to the east of Gullane, in the ‘Muirfield fields’ on the north side of the A198.

Spectators will also be encouraged to use public transport as much as possible and are being directed to the GoSEStran app developed by East Lothian Council and Transport Scotland to help plan their journeys.

Ticket holders will be advised to use service buses between North Berwick and Edinburgh, as well as the Edinburgh to Longniddry train service.

A free courtesy bus service will operate between Longniddry Railway Station and the public car park.

In more detail, traffic restrictions for the period are:

  • There will be no parking, loading or unloading on the B1377 at Longniddry (past the train station) and part of Main Road (B1345) and Village Green Road in Dirleton;
  • 20mph speed limits will be in place on the B1377 at Longniddry and 30mph limits on part of the A198 at Dirleton;
  • In response to public consultation, parking will be suspended on the north side of High Street (A198) and A6137 in Aberlady only, rather than on both sides of the road.
