ADULTS and children have been spotted reportedly "playing" on a level crossing in East Lothian.

British Transport Police (BTP) attended an incident on Sunday morning after reports reached them that a number of people were using St Germains Level Crossing, west of Longniddry, as a "playground".

On social media, BTP have reminded people that doing this is dangerous and sends the wrong message to children.

Police officers are now making enquiries and are attempting to trace the individuals involved.

British Transport Police posted on X saying: "We have attended reports of adults and children playing on St Germains Level Crossing in East Lothian this morning.

"This is dangerous & imparts the wrong message on children.

"Level Crossings are NOT to be used as playgrounds.

"Enquires are ongoing to trace those involved."

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "“Officers were called to a level crossing near Seton Mains at around 10.22am on Sunday following reports of children playing on the level crossing.

"Officers attended and conducted a search of the area, and no trace of the trespassers was found.

“Trespassing on the rail network is not only illegal and dangerous, but it can cause serious life-changing injuries or even death.

"We would urge parents to remind their children about the dangers and devastating consequences of ignoring the warnings and going onto the railway."
