MORE than 5,000 East Lothian primary school pupils have been praised for walking to school.

Living Streets’ Walk to School Week took place last month and celebrated the magic of walking and wheeling to school.

Katherine Holcroft, from Living Streets, thanked everyone for their efforts.

She said: “It was a great way to enjoy the many benefits: from reduced congestion and pollution outside the school gates, to feeling healthy and spending time with friends and family on the way.

“Almost 280,000 pupils nationwide took part in our Magic of Walking challenge, learning about the important reasons to walk or wheel and its benefits for individuals, communities and the planet.

“We’re delighted so many families joined us for Walk to School Week and hope they are feeling inspired to keep walking, wheeling, cycling and scooting all year round.”
