TALENTED performers aged between 15 and 18 from across East Lothian, can take part in a free Les Misérables (Les Mis) workshop in Musselburgh next Thursday (June 27).

They will explore the characters and music of Les Mis, with the opportunity to join Stage Door Entertainment in a fully produced production of one of the world’s most well-known musicals, which will be staged at Portobello Town Hall in September.

The workshop is on at the Fisherrow Centre on South Street from 5pm.

It is an opportunity to join Stage Door in its first anniversary year perform some of the most iconic roles in musical theatre history.

Tommie Travers and Aidan O’Brien, Stage Door producers, issued a joint statement, saying: “Les Mis is one of our favourite musicals and has been on our bucket list since we became friends.

“As is pretty standard with amateur dramatics, there is a distinct lack of interest from boys or male-identifying performers.

“Often, this is because they aren’t aware of the opportunities open to them.

“We are keen to attract the attention of talented, male-identifying individuals who are up to the challenge of joining us on this epic production.”

They added: “Although branded ‘School Edition’, this is still Les Mis in its near entirety, with only small allowances made to cut down the running time.

“Backed by a professional production team and full orchestra, this really is a very exciting, and rare opportunity, especially as the London production goes into its extraordinary and record-breaking 40th year.

“This is such a great show for boys to be a part of – even if they think they don’t like musical theatre, Les Mis is the show for them.”

They added: “We want to nurture and develop talent in a unique and invaluable way, as well as providing opportunities for everyone who loves performing.

“The benefits of being involved in a musical are truly endless.

“So, join in our crusade, make friends for life, learn new skills and talents, and be part of Stage Door history.”
