A “MOVING” ceremony in Cockenzie has marked the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings during the Second World War.
East Lothian Deputy Lieutenant Lyn Marshall attended the special ceremony at Cockenzie’s war memorial earlier this month.
She was joined by members of the community, Cockenzie & Port Seton Royal British Legion Pipes & Drums, and Cockenzie & Port Seton Community Choir.
A special commemoration was later held at Cockenzie & Port Seton Royal British Legion.
A spokesperson for the East Lothian Lieutenancy said: “At one of East Lothian’s 80th D-Day commemoration events, Lyn Marshall DL attended a very moving ceremony in Cockenzie, followed by an excellent evening in Cockenzie & Port Seton Royal British Legion, with tributes from the community choir and the Royal British Legion Pipes & Drums.
“We will remember them.”
A spokesperson for Cockenzie & Port Seton Royal British Legion added: “Heartfelt thanks to the local community for joining us at the war memorial and back in branch to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
“Special thanks go to Robin Allison, Marilyn Steele, Cockenzie & Port Seton Royal British Legion Pipes & Drums, and Cockenzie & Port Seton Community Choir.”
