LIFEBOAT volunteers in Dunbar were called out last night (Friday) amid concerns that two stand-up paddleboarders were in trouble.

Both of the town’s crews were called out by HM Coastguard at about 7.50pm.

The two crews headed to the town’s East Beach, where they found the pair were experienced stand-up paddleboard (SUP) users and in no danger.

Adrian Lavery, Inshore Lifeboat helm, said: “We were pleased to find the paddleboarders had all the appropriate safety equipment and a VHF radio in case of emergencies.

“A concerned member of the public thought they might be in trouble so did the right thing by calling it in.

“It was a false alarm with good intent.”

The RNLI offer advice to all SUP users, including to let someone know your plans.

Similarly, it is advised to check weather forecasts before heading out to sea as offshore winds can change suddenly.

A buoyancy aid and an appropriate ankle or waist leash are also recommended, as is taking a phone in a waterproof pouch.
