A TRANENT woman has been left "shaken" after a rock was thrown through her car window while she was sat inside.

Kirsty Anne Lyus, 43, had just finished teaching fitness classes at Tranent’s Loch Centre yesterday evening (Thursday) when the incident occurred.

She was sending a text message to her daughter before getting ready to drive home.

Kirsty told the Courier: “The next thing I heard was this almighty bang – it was literally like a gunshot.

“It is a noise that I can’t describe – it was so scary.

“A small rock was launched through the front passenger window, ricocheting off my windscreen and landing wedged between the driver seat and door.

“I am so lucky not to have been seriously injured.”

'Fright of my life'

Between the fright with the noise and the sheer amount of glass, it took a few seconds for Kirsty to realise what had happened.

Her entire passenger window had been smashed and the glass was scattered over the front seats.

A single mum to two daughters, Kirsty is terrified to imagine a different scenario.

She said: “If my child had been in the passenger seat, as they often would be… I dread to think.”

The broken window cannot be replaced until June 25, so she has been forced to hire a car so that she can drive her children around and get herself to work.

Posting to Facebook after the incident, she said: “I now have a £350 excess to have my car fixed and a claim on my insurance… not to mention the fright of my life.

“I’m still shaken and feeling quite emotional, but so grateful that I didn’t receive any injuries.”

'It was terrifying'

Kirsty immediately phoned the police from where she was parked outside Tranent's Ross High Rugby Club.

Although police were unable to send anyone out to her location, the dispatch caller remained on the line until she was able to visit Musselburgh Police Station to file a report.

The police plan to review the CCTV to see if they can help identify the person who carried out the attack but Kirsty was informed that the chances of being able to recoup any financial losses were slim.

She told the Courier this afternoon: “I didn’t sleep very well, today has been quite tough. I got such a fright.

“To be actually sitting in your car while it happens… it was terrifying.”

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
