The chair of litter-picking group Tranent Wombles has praised the town’s Aldi store after litter was cleared from its car park.
Tranent Wombles met with the area manager for the store, Charles De Lord, to discuss a build up of litter particularly by the dipped drainage area in the car park which the Wombles had been working constantly to clear.
Henry Mathias, chair of the Wombles, said he was delighted to see that the store had taken on board the concerns and were now regularly clearing the car park of litter.
Mr Mathias told the Courier: “I think it a great thing for them to have listened to us and done their part for the town.
“A big thanks to Charles De Lord for meeting with us and hearing what we had to say. He’s got back saying staff are now clearing the litter and it’s great to see that it is looking brilliant.
“Any help businesses can give to keep their areas clear of litter is always a good thing.”
Mr Mathias also praised developer Miller Homes after the site put up nets at the perimeter of its development, Winton View, after the Wombles raised concerns about litter from the site blowing into nearby bushes and onto Ormiston Road.
He said: “I’d like to highlight Miller Homes too for listening to us. The net is really helping and we have noticed a difference on how much rubbish we are having to clear on Ormiston Road.
“We have to credit all businesses when they do what they can and these are two good examples.”
