NORTH Berwick Community Council was delighted to see blue skies and sunshine on Sunday as it hosted its inaugural Picnic in the Park.

The event, in the town’s Lodge Grounds, saw residents bring picnics to enjoy entertainment organised by the community council’s Kenny Miller and Mairi Benson, musician Julie Loporto and North Berwick Pipe Band’s Lyle Crawford and Eddie McFadyen.

North Berwick Youth Project opened up the cafe for guests, and cash was collected for North Berwick journalist Glenn Campbell’s fundraiser, Brain Power, for Brain Tumour Research.

Entertainment was provided by Dunedin Dance Academy, North Berwick Pipe Band, Voices Choir, Sister Sister Choir, The Drama Mill, Flowers of Ukraine dance group, and Karen Cameron and Jonny Williams.

Ukrainian vice consul Yevhen Mankovskyi also said a few words.

Mairi said: “After the musical event North Berwick Pipe Band put on for the King’s coronation, Lyle Crawford decided we didn’t need to have a reason to have a community event, so it was nice to have something free for the locals to come to, especially because we don’t have a gala as such.”
