A BIG birthday celebration at Musselburgh Burgh Primary School marked the school’s diamond jubilee on Friday.

A large-scale traditional children’s birthday party and carnival was enjoyed to mark 60 years of the school, which was built in 1964 following a merger between the original Burgh and Fisherrow schools.

Jon Doyle, headteacher, said: “Our 60th birthday celebrations were really enjoyable and our children and their families had a fantastic morning together.

“The party games were lots of fun, despite the occasional rain showers, which didn’t get in the way of our festivities.

“Giant games of musical statues, musical bumps and pass the parcel all went off without a hitch and loads of prizes were given out.

“Our families enjoyed all of the carnival games on offer and the bouncy castles, face painting and ice creams were particularly popular with everyone!

“It was a lovely way to celebrate the school’s anniversary and we’re all now looking forward to our next jubilee and the chance for another big birthday bash in 10 years’ time.”
