NORTH Berwick High School staff and pupils taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival last month were delighted to raise a huge sum of money for charity.

The Courier met up with 28 students and members of staff ahead of the relay race, which saw them split into seven teams of four.

The runners raised a total of £3,674 for Leuchie House respite centre and Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Children & Young People.

Alan Macdonald, principal teacher of health and wellbeing, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed the relay experience at this year’s Edinburgh Marathon Festival and feel very proud to have raised £3,674 for our chosen charities

“Pamela Loudon, from our expressive arts faculty, was the main driving force behind it and we thank her for all the support, encouragement and organisation leading up to the event, and a massive thank you to all who contributed on our Just Giving pages.”

He added: “Everyone involved had a great time, despite the weather, and it was lovely to see the strong bond and camaraderie shared between staff and pupils whilst raising money for charities so close to our hearts.”

The school’s ‘team one’ finished in 44th place out of 305 groups taking part in the relay, with a finish time of 3hr37m57s.

The members of the team were maths teacher Craig Lawson, guidance teacher Sam Cunningham, PE teacher Christine Cutt and S6 pupil Ellis Marriot.
