A POPULAR market is looking forward to celebrating its 25th birthday next year in the centre of Haddington.

Organisers of the Haddington Farmers’ Market have applied to East Lothian Council to allow the market to remain in place for another three years.

Dozens of stalls have regularly lined Court Street since the market first opened in April 2000.

Since then, it has attracted tens of thousands of people to the centre of the town.

Val Shields, representing the farmers’ market, has applied to the local authority’s planning department to see permission for the market extended.

The market takes place on the last Saturday of each month, except for December, when the date is changed so that it falls before Christmas.
