EXEMPTIONS being put in place to a new law against parking on pavements is “ludicrous”, a member of a town community group has said.
Prestonpans Community Council discussed possible exemptions to a new law which prevents parking on pavements in Scotland.
Other towns have highlighted narrow streets in which avoiding parking on pavements could be difficult as possible exemptions to the rule, which is expected to be enforced by traffic wardens in the coming months.
However, members of Prestonpans Community Council said at their monthly meeting last Tuesday they did not wish to suggest parking exemptions for the town.
Member Graeme Hutchison said: “I think there will be too many arguments about this if there are exemptions. People will say, ‘why can’t I park here but he can park there?’ and it just won’t work.”
Treasurer Tony Leach said he thought it was a “ludicrous idea to have exemptions.”
DJ Johnston-Smith, chair of the group, said members would discuss the matter further.
