A WEEK of fun activities is set to get under way as part of Prestonpans Gala.

Events kick off tomorrow (Friday) with a pet show outside the town’s community centre at 5pm. Family pets are welcome to take part.

The gala takes place on Saturday, when queen Meadow McIntyre will be crowned at the community centre at 11am, before a parade through the town from 12.30pm along Schaw Road, Preston Road, West Loan, Ayres Wynd, High Street, Redburn Road and South Grange Avenue, then back along West Loan, Preston Road and Mary Murray Park.

An afternoon of fun activities will follow at Mary Murray Park, with ponies, funfair rides, a silent disco, crazy golf and fire engines, as well as food and drink, including pizza from The Slice Girls trailer.

The celebrations continue on Monday, with a bingo night at Prestonpans Labour Club. The adults only event takes place from 7pm, with participants able to win a share of the £200 jackpot.

On Tuesday, a roller disco takes place at the community centre from 6.15pm to 7.30pm for kids aged three to Primary 3 and from 7.45pm to 9pm for kids in Primary 4 to 7.

Tickets are available from the community centre and skates will be provided.

On Wednesday, a senior citizens concert takes place at Prestonpans Royal British Legion, with doors opening at 6pm and entertainment beginning at 7pm. Tickets are available from the town’s community centre.

Next Thursday (June 13) will see the introduction of a sensory trailer at Prestonpans Community Centre from 3pm-6pm. The trailer aims to provide a zone of fun play activities for children with additional support needs.

Gala committee members said they wanted to add an event to accommodate those who require a more quiet space for activities.

Finally, next Friday, a family disco at the community centre will bring an end to the week of activities.

Youngsters aged three to Primary 3 will have a disco from 6pm to 7.15pm and kids from Primary 4 to 7 from 7.45pm to 9pm. Tickets for the disco can be bought from the community centre.
