A NORTH Berwick runner smashed her fundraising target after completing the Edinburgh Half Marathon in memory of her dad.

Daisy Thomas, 22, lost her father, Derek, to cancer in 2005, when she was aged just four. She decided to take on the half marathon challenge due to her father’s own love of running.

Project manager Daisy, who grew up in Dunbar but moved with her mum and brother to North Berwick in 2019, originally aimed to raise £500 but has stacked up a whopping £2,506 for Marie Curie, the charity that looked after her father in the last months of his life.

Daisy’s friends and family, including her mum, Laura, and brother, Max, made it out to the route to cheer her on at the tenth mile.

On a wet blustery day, Daisy managed to finish the half marathon in a time of 2.01.10.

Speaking to the Courier after the 13.1-mile run, Daisy said: “I am so amazed at the amount of money that I have raised for Marie Curie - I never thought I’d be able to get so many people donating to me for running.

“I just want to thank everyone who did.”

About the day’s event, she said: “It was a great atmosphere and it was such a good day, with lots of supporters along the route.”

She added: “It was real shame about the weather but I suppose it kept me nice and cool while running along!”
