An East Lothian modern mansion, nicknamed 'the upside down house', has featured in BBC's Scotland's Home of the Year programme.

The new-build, located near Archerfield, with stunning golf course and Firth of Forth views, faced off against two other wonderful properties, one in West Lothian and one in Fife, on Monday's BBC One Scotland show.

The couple who own the property, Jenny and David, worked with an architect and a interior designer to create their dream home, making the most of the stunning golf course and coastal views by putting the living space upstairs and sleeping quarters below.

Scotland's Home of the Year, now in its sixth season, ventures around homes all over the country in search of the nation's perfect living quarters, with Edinburgh's very own 'The Old Train House' winning in 2023.

The judges - Anna Campbell Jones, Banjo Beale and Danny Campbell - visited the East Lothian house and were immediately in awe.

Fitted with a study, cinema room, gym, spa and a secret tucked-away walk-in wardrobe, the four bedroom house is a family's dream.

In the episode, Jenny said: "Always loved [the] North Berwick [area], came here every single summer with my parents, this is the place we really wanted to live."

She jokingly went onto say: "Obviously, we are the age we are and our children are adults now and we wanted to create something that would entice them back to us, so we have achieved that because we can't get rid of them now, they are always here.

"If we won Scotland's Home of the Year, I think it would be a real celebration of the architects, the people who helped with the interiors, and to the builders who were incredible; it would be a celebration of all of them."

David said: "Even though I work full-time, I feel like everyday is a holiday. You look out and you really don't believe that we live here."

However, the county pad will not proceed to the final of Scotland's Home of the Year, after scoring 26 points from the three judges, missing out to a house in Linlithgow which got full marks of 30 points.
