Pupils at Preston Lodge High School were harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence at a special exhibition.

S2 pupils at the school visited Edinburgh Napier University’s Powered by AI exhibition earlier this month.

Pupils learned about different uses for artificial intelligence. One example was “Watch this space!”, an AI which would use an Apple watch to record a person’s movements about the home. It could automatically tell if pupils were walking, brushing their teeth, cleaning their house or washing dishes, and is aimed at older people who live in assisted accommodation.

Pupils also got to meet Pepper and Furhat, two social robots that interact with humans using voice and facial expressions, and also got to play with a robotic dog, learn about the Formula Student Team Napier who are using computing and engineering to develop the best driverless racing car, and test out virtual reality.

Emma Webster, technologies teacher, said: “This opened our eyes to how AI can be used in different situations. Thanks Napier University for a fun day out!”
