A HABITUAL offender has been jailed for 12 months after he admitted to a series of crimes committed in the county.
David Wright, of Baxter’s Gate, Tranent, appeared from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Thursday to plead guilty to offences including theft and driving charges.
Wright stole a quantity of meat from the Asda store on the town’s High Street on July 16 last year.
The court was told the £135 of goods were never recovered.
He also pleaded guilty to stealing £15 of solar lighting from the same outlet on August 1 and again there was no recovery of the items.
The 38-year-old admitted further charges of driving an unregistered vehicle, namely a scooter, at High Street, Tranent, and without any valid insurance on May 24 last year.
Wright also admitted to a series of bail breaches and breaching the conditions of a previously imposed restriction of liberty order.
Sheriff Robert Fife was told the offender was currently serving a jail sentence for a previous offence and is due to be released in July.
Sheriff Fife revoked the restriction of liberty order and imposed a custodial sentence on Wright of 12 months, which is to run consecutively to his current prison term.
