A WEEK of fun activities will build up to East Linton Gala over the next week ahead of the big day next Saturday.

The gala returns to the village after not going ahead in 2023 due to a lack of committee members.

Local resident Cat McMeekan took on the mantle of gala chair late last year and has formed a new committee to get the event running again.

On Saturday, a ceilidh takes place at East Linton Community Hall from 7pm. The event is for adults only and tickets cost £12.

Football will take place on Sunday at East Linton Park from 1-4pm with nursery and P1 players on the field from 1-2pm, P2-P7 players from 2-3pm and kids against adults from 3-4pm. Places can be booked via the gala website.

Judging for the best dressed window competition takes place on Monday from 6pm. Entries to the competition can be submitted via the East Linton Gala website.

A kids disco takes place at East Linton Community Hall from 6-7pm for nursery to P3 pupils on Tuesday and from 7-8pm for P4-P7 pupils. Tickets are £3 at the door and includes a drink, snacks and glow stick.

A family quiz night takes place on Wednesday from 6-8pm at East Linton Community Hall with tickets costing £10 per team. Tickets can be bought on the East Linton Gala website.

East Linton Primary School’s sports day takes place next Thursday from noon before Pix in the Stix will show a film ‘Why Not Scotland?’ at East Linton Community Hall at 7.30pm.

Next Friday, a scavenger hunt takes place from noon all around town with participants able to pick up their map from coffee shop Votandi on High Street.

The gala will get underway next Saturday at Memorial Park. At 12.15pm costume judging will take place followed by the gala parade at 12.30pm.

The gala crowning ceremony for Queen Ena Gall and King Jacob Park will be at 1pm at Memorial Park before the party in the park, featuring shows, games, music and food gets underway at 1.15pm.

At 3pm a race at Traprain Law will take place before the week comes to a close at 5pm.

“A lot of work has gone into this year’s gala and a big thanks to all who have helped fundraise and make all this possible.

“We have some great entertainment for all on offer this year and we have tried our very best to keep costs to a minimum including the free shows on Saturday.
