COCKENZIE and Port Seton Gala returns to the county this weekend with a whole host of fun activities on offer.

Before the big day on Saturday, Cockenzie and Port Seton Bowling Club hosts a hat night today (Thursday) at 6pm for all to enjoy.

The shows arrive at King George V Park from 4pm to 7pm tomorrow (Friday). A focus has been placed on neurodiversity from the gala committee this year with the first hour of the shows being noise free for all to enjoy.

A range of funfair rides for youngsters to enjoy will be on offer at the fair ahead of the big day on Saturday.

On Saturday, the gala crowning ceremony will take place at 12.15pm at Port Seton Community Centre followed by gala parade, which will leave the centre at 1.15pm.

The parade, which includes multiple floats, will stop at Memorial Park for 1.40pm where wreaths will be laid at the memorial green.

The procession will then head along Edinburgh Road, High Street and will stop at Thorntree Inn where a dance will be performed by the fishergirls at 2.20pm. The dancers will rejoin the parade at 2.50pm as it heads to Port Seton Harbour.

The parade will head along Seton Place at 3.10pm towards Links Road and back to the community centre for about 3.30pm.

A gala ball will follow a week later at Cockenzie and Port Seton Royal British Legion.

A spokesperson for the gala told the Courier: “We are looking forward to the gala day and all the activities leading up to it.

“We put a focus on neurodiversity again this year to make sure that everyone was included in the gala. We know galas can be quite noisy and so not accessible to everyone. We hope that the silent hour on Friday will help include everyone.

“A big thanks must be said to all involved in organising this year’s gala and all who have supported us.”
