A schoolgirl has raised more than £400 for a homeless charity with a 12-hour sponsored silence.

Poppy Lister, a Law Primary School P4 pupil, took an interest in Social Bite, a charity that combats homelessness, after travelling into Edinburgh and seeing the problem in the Capital first hand.

She then organised for the charity to hold a lecture at the school, which led the eight-year-old to “do something about it”.

Poppy told the Courier: “Whenever I visit Edinburgh, we take food and drink for some of the people we see, but I would like to try and do more to help other homeless people.”

The money Poppy has raised will provide 90 meals to homeless people in the Capital.

And this is not the first time that Poppy has taken an interest in the charity – she has also taken part in its Wee Sleepout event.

Poppy’s mum Jane said: “We have always tried to support Social Bite and she wanted to raise money for them after going into Edinburgh and realising there was an issue. We invited Social Bite to the school and, after they did a talk at Law Primary, Poppy knew she wanted to do something for homeless people and to help with the issue.”
