A BID to ensure a popular park in Dunbar remains a community space appears to have stalled.
Herbert Coutts, who died two years ago, had pushed for the possibility of promoting Lauderdale Park as a Fields in Trust space.
The national scheme has been running for nearly 100 years and is a legal agreement between Fields in Trust and a space’s landowner.
The agreement states that the area will be retained for use as a green space, usually a public park, playing field or recreation ground, in perpetuity.
Mr Coutts had raised the idea with Dunbar Community Council, where he was a member, and the group highlighted the suggestion again last month.
However, despite East Lothian Council agreeing to explore the possibility nearly two years ago, little progress has been made.
An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “We have experienced resourcing challenges which have impacted on this work, but it is still our intention to progress and we will provide the community with an update in due course.”
