PREPARATIONS are well under way for a busy week of gala activities in Cockenzie and Port Seton.

The reigning gala king and queen, Sophie Dick and Kail Johnstne, will raise flags high at Port Seton’s Promenade on Saturday, when five flags designed by pupils at Cockenzie Primary School are put on display.

The artworks celebrate the village’s history and beauty, and were chosen by members of Cockenzie and Port Seton Community Council.

The gala king and queen will be joined by a piper at 10am at the Promenade on Saturday to raise the flags and mark the start of a fun week.

Music group The Klones will then officially kick off gala week at Cockenzie and Port Seton Royal British Legion on Saturday from 7.30pm, tickets costing £15. Email cpsgala@hotmail.co.uk to buy tickets.

A week of activities includes the annual football tournament on Monday, with a race night the following day and a pet show on Wednesday.

Cockenzie and Port Seton Bowling Club hosts a bowling hat night the following evening, before the shows arrive in King George V Park from 4pm to 7pm next Friday (May 31).

The shows will be silent 4-5pm as part of the gala’s commitment to supporting neurodiversity and those with additional support needs.

Then gala day itself follows next Saturday (June 1).

A spokesperson for the gala told the Courier: “We are looking forward to another amazing gala week ahead.

“We put a focus on neurodiversity again this year to make sure that everyone was included in the gala. We know galas can be quite noisy and so not accessible to everyone. We hope that the silent hour on Friday will help include everyone.

“There are a whole bunch of activities taking place this week and we’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone to our gala.”
