CUSTOMERS and staff at the Horseshoe Tavern in Musselburgh have donated £1,000 to the Fisherrow Hub.

The presentation of a bumper cheque took place recently at the pub on Newbigging.

After running the Horseshoe Tavern since late 2010, Lorraine Lynch decided to retire last August. During her time in charge, nearly £10,000 has been donated to local charities, organisations and causes.

This “remarkable effort” by Lorraine, staff and pub regulars was achieved despite the pub being closed from March to July 2020, then from October 2020 to May 2021, during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The final donation from Lorraine of £1,000 was made to the Musselburgh-based Fisherrow Hub, which provides support and weekday opportunities for young people and adults, predominantly with a learning disability, who are resident in East Lothian.

Over the years, donations have also been made to Alzheimer Scotland (D-Cafe), Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland, East Lothian Partially Sighted, Macmillan nurses, and Eskgreen care home.

During 2017, defibrillators were also donated to three local primary schools.

Funds were raised through regular karaoke nights, Stars in their Eyes nights, coffee mornings and race nights/days.

Also held was a weekly lottery bonus ball, which was replaced by a lotto bingo competition, from which 20 per cent of the proceeds were retained for local charity contribution.

The Horseshoe Tavern is now under the management of Christelle Woodcock, who is “excited” to continue Lorraine’s “good work” within the community. The team at the Horseshoe said they were “dedicated to keeping this tradition alive and have already begun plans for further charity events”.
