MORE than 150 rowers gathered on Fisherrow Back Sands at Musselburgh for a day of competition and fun at the Eskmuthe Community Rowing Club regatta.

Against the backdrop of Fisherrow Harbour, eight clubs, mainly from the Firth of Forth and Alnmouth Coastal Rowing Club, which came from Northumberland for the recent event, put up their gazebos and vied for victory in 10 “thrilling” races.

The regatta showcased a diverse range of events, including an international race that saw all crew members hailing from countries outside the UK, adding a global dimension to the competition.

Among the highlights was the 2k steeplechase, which was featured for the first time at the regatta.

Mix-up races featured rowers from different clubs and provided a spectacle of “fierce competition and light-hearted fun demonstrating the inclusive spirit of the rowing community”.

Local businesses also joined in the festivities, with the Fisherrow Tap pub paying homage to Eskmuthe by naming two of their beers after the boats Honesty and Steedie Falconer, adding a touch of local flavour to the event.

The club said: “Despite the unpredictable coastal weather, rowers were fortunate as the wind proved kind, allowing for optimal racing conditions and contributing to the overall success of the regatta.”

It was later said the regatta served as “a celebration of the sport of rowing, bringing together enthusiasts from near and far for a day of spirited competition and shared passion for the open water”.

The event was sponsored by local businesses: main sponsor Knight Chiropractor; programme sponsor Red MacGregor; and race sponsors Fusion Massage Therapy, Fluid, Fairnies Fresh Prawns, Rock and Rose Hairdressing, Selling with Sylvia, The Mercat Grill, Blossoming Gardens, Edinburgh Property Photography, Almond Park Nursery and the Fisherrow Tap.
