YOUNGSTERS at a village’s primary school have got involved in the recruitment process for their new headteacher.

Sarah Morgan, who was headteacher at Pencaitland Primary School, has moved on to lead the primary school in neighbouring Ormiston.

Now a short video has been created to encourage potential candidates to become her successor in Pencaitland.

The video, voiced by pupils from the school, says: “We are a lovely village school at the heart of our community and we need a headteacher.

“We have about 150 pupils across seven classes and another 30 in the nursery.

“We are set in the beautiful village of Pencaitland, not far from Edinburgh, with huge grounds, a school garden and woodland on our doorstep.

“We have an active parent council and a PTA, who recently organised an incredible spring fair where the whole community turned out to support us.

“We have amazing long-standing teachers, who make learning fun.

The job is already being advertised online, with a view to a new headteacher starting on August 12.

The advert notes: “The school comprises a nursery, accommodated currently in a temporary structure in the school playground; eight classrooms, some of which are semi-open-planned; a library; a gym hall with a stage; a dining area; and a general purpose/music room.

“It is set in large grounds and surrounded by woodland, which can be accessed directly from the school grounds.”

An annual salary of £68,265 is being offered.

Helen Gardyne, who was headteacher at Ormiston Primary School, became headteacher of Haddington Primary School following the retirement of Willie French.
