A fire broke out at Kinwegar Recycling Centre this afternoon with fire crew attending the scene.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that one appliance attended the scene in Wallyford at about 1pm this afternoon to extinguish the fire.

SFRS confirmed that the fire had started at a skip. With East Lothian Council confirming that the centre was forced to close for about an hour. 

Fire crew left the scene shortly after the fire was extinguished.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 11.57am on Sunday, May 12, to reports of a fire affecting a skip at a commercial premises on Haddington Road, Wallyford.

"Operations control mobilised one fire appliance to the scene and firefighters extinguished the fire.

"There were no casualties and crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe."

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “The fire and rescue service were called to Kinwegar Recycling Centre on Sunday after smoke was seen rising from a small electrical and electronic equipment skip.

"This was attended to by the fire and rescue service and we are grateful for their prompt assistance as well as that of staff on site.

"The centre was closed for around an hour whilst the matter was dealt with.”
