AN IMPRESSIVE winning streak has been extended after a Haddington salon made it nine awards in nine years.
Sharon’s Hair and Beauty Boutique is no stranger to awards success and it has now added to its increasingly busy trophy cabinet.
The Market Street business was crowned Best Hair Salon 2024 at the Scottish Independent Retailer of the Year awards.
Staff were unable to attend the ceremony in Glasgow but Sharon Edgar, owner of the business, was delighted with the success when she found out the next morning they had clinched another prize.
She told the Courier that the team never took their success for granted and said: “When I read about winning the next day on the website, I was really surprised to see we had won.
“All our clients have been congratulating us on Facebook and there are some really lovely messages.
“It does make us all feel really good.
“The team, we are a really close team, and it makes us feel great.”
'Like a family'
Last year, the business, which is made up of six members of staff, was crowned Hair and Beauty Salon of the Year South East before going on to be named national winner at the same awards ceremony.
Now it could be looking for further success after being named a finalist for the Nation’s Hair and Beauty Awards, which are being held in Manchester in July.
Sharon, who has been behind the business for nine years, thanked her customers for their continued support.
She put the success down to the relationship between each member of staff – Manuela Venturiero, Leah Paterson, Elaine Paterson, Aime Paterson and Flora Kelly – and also their customers.
She added: “I can only think that the girls in here, we are all just so nice.
“We are like a family – some of them are family – and it is just the way we are with the clients.
“Even when the clients come in, they mention how comfortable they feel in here.
“We have a cabinet in the window, which is now our trophy cabinet!”
The awards, now in their 11th year, were held at Glasgow’s DoubleTree by Hilton and brought together industry leaders, entrepreneurs and esteemed guests.
A spokesperson for the awards, which aim to celebrate those who have contributed to the growth and vibrancy of Scotland’s retail sector, congratulated both the winners and those who were highly commended in the various categories.
They said: “The Scottish Independent Retail Awards have always strived to recognise and celebrate the remarkable achievements of independent retailers.
“This year’s winners have exemplified excellence in their sectors and have played a pivotal role in enhancing Scotland’s retail industry.”
