A WORLD Cup winning midfielder has been spotted sampling the whiskies on offer at Glenkinchie Distillery.
Juan Mata was among those enjoying a tour of the Diageo distillery, near Pencaitland, earlier this month.
The 35-year-old, who lifted the World Cup with Spain in 2010 before being crowned a European Championship winner two years later, was part of the tour led by Keith Waldron.
The brand home guide, who has worked at Glenkinchie for seven years, admitted that he did not recognise the former Valencia, Chelsea, Manchester United and Galatasaray midfielder.
Mr Waldron, who lives in Tranent, described the 41-times-capped midfielder, who was joined on the tour by his partner Evelina Kamph, as “quiet and unassuming” and thought he “thoroughly” enjoyed the tour.
Mata made a purchase from the distillery before signing an autograph for Keith’s son, who supports Hearts.
